Subject: Kitsat-OSCAR-25 To: ham-space@ucsd.edu Hi folks, I have been lurking here for a while and am now ready to ask my first question! I have just joined AMSAT but have yet to Rx any info from them. I am wondering about this new? oscar-25 that I have read about that has cameras on it. Will I be able to "listen" to a beacon from it and decode a picture of the earth? Or will I have to "download" somehow? I realize that I can get "wefax" capable equipment from a variety of vendors. Is this the same format? What kind of equipment will I need? Antennae? AZ/EL rotator? If yes, I think I should get one with computer control capability as I have a 486 machine I wish to manipulate the images on. Amplifiers???? Decoder/Demodulator? I know I am going to need something like this but I don't know what kind and what the most popular formats are. I assume this device will have a computer interface on it. Will some of these do packet also? Is this related to AMTOR/PACKTOR? I have a lot of questions I know and I am perusing the literature at a feverish rate, I just wanted to use the shotgun approach so that I could saturate myself with information. Any and all replies are appreciated. If there are a lot I will certainly summarize to the net. Thanks, 73 N3PDG (pudgy?) (pretty darn good?) To: ham-space@ucsd.edu I've been looking around for software that will tell me when passes will occur, much like the "analytical solution" mode of TrakSat for DOS machines (azimuth, elevation, direction of travel, distance, etc) but haven't had any luck. I don't require (or want) graphics support, just a text list of upcoming passes. Is there such a beast, and if so, where can I get it? I'd very much appreciate any pointers.
